Jenny Sayer
Drawing, painting and creating, her career encompassed the skills she enjoyed. Initially working in Graphic Design, this changed to Sign Writing as a way of getting outdoors. In partnership with husband Stu they owned a professional Sign business, Tamar Signs in Launceston Tasmania for 25 years. In 2012 she moved with her family to Murwillumbah in the Northern Rivers of NSW. Her attention is now on creating her own artwork with hands on materials and techniques.

Natural Chaos
Artpost 14 April - 25 May 22
1464 Kyogle Rd Uki
Despite the demands of her medium, Jenny’s work is instinctively painterly and expressive of the beautiful although at times treacherous environment of the Northern Rivers. The title of her show, ‘Natural Chaos ‘, however, doesn’t refer to natural disasters at all – rather the way in which the laws of nature grow and proliferate. The liveliness of the glass, its sensitivity to colour, light and texture is a perfect medium with which to express that fertile chaos

Mosaics
My mosaics are made with cut, broken or slumped glass. Glass gives such a depth and richness, mirror gives movement. While glass is my favorite material I also love to combine it with mixed media, mainly found objects, rocks, driftwood, sand and wax (encaustic). Most works are framed with reclaimed timber or driftwood which floats up on our Tweed River bank.

I'm fascinated by the layers and contradictions of personalities and lives. In the process of entering the unattainable Archibald Prize I have had the privilege of meeting and painting two amazing people.
Dr Gregory Peel Smith spent much of his life in institutions believing he was unworthy of a society he did not understand. His journey from hermit to academic is a testament to his strength of character. His story can be read in his book ‘Out of the Forest’ or seen on ABC’s Australian Story. Showing the power of caring by those both camouflaged and celebrated, comedian, activist, writer Mandy Nolan gives it to us straight! She has a powerful and acidic sense of humour that can cut through any BS and make us consider the way we act and react.
